Key Benefits of regular floats

LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

Floating increases blood flow to the lymphatic system, causing this waste-maintenance system to operate more effectively.

MAGNESIUM

Floating is a great way to boost your magnesium levels. Adequate levels of magnesium are correlated with lower incidences of coronary heart disease, lower blood pressure, better quality of sleep, cholesterol improvement and lower stress levels.

WEIGHT LOSS
Floating is effective at lowering the stress hormone cortisol, which causes anxiety and contributes to weight gain.

ATHLETICS
Floating exfoliates the skin while restoring and maintaining electrolyte balance. Increased blood flow to the muscles helps them dispose of lactic acid, diminishing soreness and accelerating recovery time for athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

SLEEP
One hour of rest in the floating theta state is equivalent to approximately four hours of R.E.M. sleep.

CHRONIC BACK PAIN
The weightlessness achieved by effortlessly floating on top of a dense, super-saturated solution of Epsom salt and water makes it possible for the muscular, skeletal and circulatory systems to rest in a zero gravity environment. This allows the spine to decompress and realign, the muscles to completely relax, and the circulatory system to more easily pump blood to areas of the body that are difficult to reach when the heart and vessels are working against gravity.

BRAIN CHEMISTRY
Heightened production of endorphins

Reduction in sensory input causes the normally dominant left hemisphere of the brain to relax while the right hemisphere becomes more active. This allows the two cerebral hemispheres to synchronize with one another, creating a sense of harmony, balance and clear-headedness. The right brain is able to express itself more fully, resulting in increased creativity, big-picture thinking and problem solving. Floating also encourages theta wave activity in the brain, which Tibetan monks are only able to achieve after many years of disciplined meditation

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Floating?

  • Floating is an immersive experience where you enjoy the benefits of an environment that is entirely free from sensory stimuli.

  • The float rooms are sound proof, light proof, and the temperature of both the air and water are maintained at about 94-95 degrees, which is essentially the same temperature of your skin.

  • The water contains approximately 1,000 pounds of pharmaceutical grade epsom salt (magnesium sulfate), making it even more buoyant than the Dead Sea.

  • With over 50% of your body above water level, you will experience weightlessness akin to that of about 14% gravity--thus the origins of the term ‘floating.’

  • After about ten to fifteen minutes in the tank, your body acclimates to sensory-free environment. Your body begins to relax due to both the lack of sensory input and the calming effects of the epsom salts.

  • Within thirty minute--and depending on your intentions--you will begin to enter states of relaxation, a dreamlike consciousness, and may experience feelings of euphoria or extreme clarity.

WHY FLOAT if you're perfectly healthy?

  • Floating is a tool of optimization. In today’s world of sensory overload, 90 minutes in our float tanks can provide the ‘reset’ you need to enter into your routines with a clearer, rested mind that’s flowing with calm energy and creative juices.

Is floating worth the cost?

  • Floating is a practice. The more often you float, the easier it will become to slip into the meditative state which is why we recommend floating on a regular basis. Our membership packages provide the best rates and make it easier to incorporate this practice into your life.

  • Floating on a regular basis helps to ensure you are more well-rested, less stressed out, feeling your creative flow, and more grounded in today’s world of sensory overload.

  • We have clients share that the experience is much more rewarding than a massage, or other self-maintenance services.

WHY SHOULD I FLOAT?

  • Above all else, floating has been proven again to induce states of extreme relaxation.

    • 1997 analyses of over 1,000 descriptions of floating found that more than 90% of participants’ descriptions of the experience focused on its deeply relaxing nature.

  • Dr. Roderick Borrie re-dubbed the term ‘sensory deprivation’ with the friendlier acronym: REST, or Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy.

  • Research has shown that floating, or REST, can increase one’s physical performance, reduce anxiety and the likelihood of panic attacks, decrease symptoms of depression, and increase creativity — with persisting effects lasting well after the float.

  • Suedfeld’s work suggests that flotation facilitates creativity. A small study of five university professors found that six 90-minute float sessions allowed them to generate more “creative” ideas, which coincided with a self-reported increase in free imagery and remote associations. Similarly, in a study with 40 university students, a single hour of flotation increased their scores on a standardized test used to measure creativity.

Although boosts to creativity are a prime selling point for float houses, evidence supporting them is sparse. A far better researched effect of flotation is that it enhances performance in a variety of athletic and musical tasks that require high levels of concentration and visual-motor coordination, including basketball, tennis, archery and jazz improvisation. In a sample of 13 jazz students, four sessions enhanced their technical performance one week after the last flotation experience, suggesting the possibility of lasting benefits.
